The previous record-holder was 51 mpg for the 1987 Honda CRZ HF (which would fail to meet current emission standards). Chevrolet brand no longer sells in Europe (for 2 years now). Vauxhall (UK) and Opel (rest of Europe) have "equivalent" cars, like the Astra, which holds this diesel engine. Expect about 45MPG Diesel consumption: Opel - Astra - Spritmonitor.de
You have not considered regenerative system that will kick when your system determined ....and it will drop your efficiency down to gas engines..... If you are in Europe consider VW 4 cyl diesel or BMW 4 cyl diesel..you will get besr efficiency with BMW 4 cyl Diesel.... Don't let media's make you believe something that is just not true..... And Cruze diesel is 1.5 generation behind in common rail injection..with similar year like VW or BMW.... And they are not definitely low on noise.... I have buddy with this type of engine and there is nowhere close to statement of quietness or that type of efficiency.... There is way to make this engine to run that type of efficiency......and that will be removing entire emission system and tuned to accommodate free flow and no backpressure....
I'm not the one doing the testing. The EPA regulations take into account the effect of the regeneration system, by directly measuring the amount of fuel consumed on the City & Highway test runs. So if Chevrolet (GM) estimates they will get 50 MPG highway, that's what they are seeing in actual, official EPA tests.
If you own one.....you will be disappointed.....that this what they advertising are very hard to make.... Believe when I say.....i have rented this car in USA and Europe.....for 2+ months each place.....and try my best to see this numbers everyone is saying with normal drive..... City is much lower but with an 5 MT and mild hypermiling you can beat EPA city. My old gas cobalt XFE was 50mpg all summer just hypermiler and drive slow

can't stand diesels. they represent everything that's wrong with the world. like coal rollers. might as well have coal fired cars.
I used to have a manual transmission 1992 Honda Civic VX. Loved that car! It was rated at 51 MPG...and I was actually able to get that on the highway. In fact, it was the reason I was skeptical of Hybrids for so long ( but have since 'seen the light' ). In fact, my daughter still remembers the car..she used to call it 'little red' when she was very young.
No way....Today new diesel smell like rotten eggs....and require another fluid Urea......They run clean and smooth....just the way this emission is designed...it will burn more fuel and all improvements in driving will get lost each time Cat....need to Regen They have purpose ..just not for users of short trips.... 37 MPG combined for the manual and 31 MPG combined for the automatic is so bad, it's not possible to take it seriously. No mention whatsoever of emission-rating is the evidence of being severely wounded, especially from all the awareness raised by the cheating scandal. After 15 years of tolerating the claims of being as clean & efficient, it's time to move on. Gen-4 Prius easily surpasses that it both regards. Adding a plug to it to make a Prime buries the coffin. Diesel for passenger cars is dead.
I was just thinking, what would happen if the cruse diesel had a hybrid setup like the prius, I wonder how much better the mpg's would be then

yeah, ive heard such, a majority of our electric comes from coal fired power. So I guess that would make my Prime a rolling coal boat
Someone suggested: The problem is dirty coal which like "clean coal" has as much credibility as the VW "clean diesels" After all, house power comes from the same dirty coal power plants. Being a rascal from time to time: You are right about EVs using coal fired electricity so let's go burn down someone's house and free up enough electricity to power 3 or 4 EVs.
