Can anyone help me, I need to change the Hv battery in my 04 prius. I looked at the rebuilder's in NJ, Falcon hybrid came up. They don't have a great BBB it a B- $1350. DIY with one year warranty. Then there's Dorman three year warranty, $1200-to-$1400 not the best reviews either. I would like to find someone that would change all 28 cells, not just a few. I only want to do this once not every 12-to-18 months. I saw a post from Tjs, but can't seem to find it now, where he bought one with all new cell. I like to do the job for around $1500 DIY considering the car is 13 years old with 130k on it
Only way to get all new modules is from the dealer. Very few people will provide that. Dorman would be the way to go
Or you could put in a brand new pack for about $2600 and change and be good for the next 10 years. How much longer are you planning to keep the car?
welcome! you're between a rock and a hard place. beer money and champagne taste. try @Eric , he might know if anyone replaces all the cells, but i think you're gonna have to go new. 130k? it's just broken in!
Assembling a pack with 28 random modules from various pack without doing the work of matching them would be a bad idea. Replacing all the modules with a matched set is what we call a replacement pack. Either buy one premade one made of used cells and pay the company for it's time and talent, or go to Toyota and get one from the counter person (some assembly required). Feel free to call if you'd like to discuss simply purchasing 28 random cells.
