Drove 1,000miles and threw P0A80

    Yup, I drove about 1K miles and lights came on. Hooked up MiniVCI and it said P0A80- Failed Hybrid Battery. My 2010 Prius have 329,000 miles so its doesn't make sense to buy new hybrid battery when my engine can blow up anytime. Heck, I wasnt sure if my car have rebuilt engine! :oops:

    I really want to rebuild HV battery myself(Or the local hybrid shop can do it for $350). For now, I cleared the codes and did some type of ghetto reconditioning lol. I did it by slowly drain the HV battery and let it sit overnight and start my car the next morning to charge up the battery.

    I attached my chart and it seem my block #5 is going bad. Also the batteries' volts seem little off.. Are they suppose to be more even and stable? Hopefully all I need to buy a good module and swap out the bad one. What is your opinion on this?

    likely, o rebuild will last that long. i would advise learning to do it properly, then you'll only have to do it a few times, and inexpensively.
    otoh, if you only need 3 years, you could install a dorman.

    Update. I havent had a chance to repair my hybrid battery yet... But the good news is... I found the low mileage hybrid battery (23k miles on it!) He is selling for $500! I'm going to see him in the next morning! Will keep you guys updated!:cool:

    I hope this guy's name is not Brian.

    In Socal, even junkyards want $700. Anything less would not be legit, unless it's a rebuilt or module swap repair. $500 for 23k miles battery is not believable

    You should open up the battery before paying and make sure all the modules serial numbers are similar

    Nope! The hybrid battery is located in Henderson, Nevada. (Near Las Vegas) I will be pulling HV battery from salvaged Prius. Gonna be a fun road trip!

    What year is the battery from with only 23k miles? If it's from a 10 year old car, I would suggest you do a grid charge on the battery before firing it up in a car. That battery will be out of balance by now.

    If it's still in the car, then there's a good chance it's original but check and see if the nuts on the case floor bolts and any others have been compromised. If so, then it's probably been messed with.

    I paid $350 for mine out of an 04/to go in an 04 and it's been good for ~800 miles so far lol. The engine blew on that car.

    It's the 23k mile barn finds that are in danger of getting out of balance. 2004 cars that are driven are usually fine

    That's one of the first Gen3 batt fails we have heard, but congrats on 328000 miles...guess it does not owe anybody anything. In rare cases (on Gen2) the code is set off by over-heated batt due to clogged cooling fan, and can be fixed that way.

    I pulled the HV battery from the 2010 Prius. However I looked the serial number of the module and it seem made in either 2013 or 2017? I hope you can verify! On the way home last night, my Prius threw light of death but we got home just fine. I'm preparing to swap the battery today.

    You would need to swap the modules out of the 2010 to the gen2. They are different generation packs

    The new battery is installed and I already gave it a test drive! I noticed my Prius feel little snappier... especially on Power mode. It was practically quick from the stop! Right now, im waiting for Permanent DTC (P0A80) to become clear. Damn those little computers.. But hey! My prius passed 330,000miles!

    You can clear the code by disconnecting the 12v for a few seconds

    Yes the codes is already cleared but.. when I plugged my MiniVCI, I can see my P0A80 still in the system. I did some googling and permanent dtc mean " permanent codes can only be erased by the OBD system itself and cannot be erased through human interaction with the OBD system or any onboard computer." So it might take a while or so.. I guess
