This was the second 12v battery. when I bought the first one Toyota was the only source. So this time I didn't bother looking. I didn't know the price until I got to the service area check out. The number of 4K was what I recall my daughter said was the HV price. with 200 K on the car its not worth putting that kind of money into it.
agreed. these cars are really only good for 10 or 12 years on average, if you can't diy. probably true of most cars.
My car is a 2004 with over 280k miles. I changed the 12 volt battery once in 2008 when I had less than 50k miles on the car. I paid a lot less than you did for the battery and my friend and I installed it ourselves. You really need to shop around and change dealers if you feel they are over charging you.
I don't know where you live, but I live in Oregon USA. But when I replaced my 2007 Prius 12 volt battery, I went to Les Schawb and the cost for the battery and for them to install it was about $135 US dollars. And that was about 3 or 4 years ago.
but if it is, i would move it back to the original location. under the seat, (if not purpose designed) could be a safety hazard.
Paid $210 for a 12-volt this past winter and installed it myself in about 30 minutes. Dealer wanted $225 for the battery and $150 to install.
Mine is a 2007 Prius. I took possession of it in 2009. I didn't even know where the 12 volt battery was (not the big hybrid battery). Les Schwabb looked in their manual and found where it was under the back seat (just like my old 2000 buick lasaber ltd was). So apparently that was where they put it for 2007. Personally I think it is a poor place, to me batteries belong under the hood.
So apparently you have a C? I think everyone assumed it was a regular hatchback since your info just says "2007 Prius" and the C came out in 2011. Every 2007 Prius made has the battery in the right rear corner under the deck by the tail light. At least from the factory. If you got yours in 2009, I think Schwabb told you wrong. Did you look?
My thoughts, too. I'd really like to see a picture of this modification. My wife has an '07 and her battery is no where near the back seat. It's like all the other Gen 2's.
I did. I watched them take the seat out and there it was. As far as I know, that is where the factory put it originally. I got the car used in 2009, the battery was not put in until about 2012 or 2013. The battery failure was probably due to several occurrences of me not remembering you have to open the drivers door to shut the headlights off. I leave the lights on all the time, so oncoming cars can see me. You see lights before you ever see the car. If I could come up with a way to shut them off automatically after a minute (or even when the engine is shut down), I would do it. As I have heard from other responses, that "defect" was taken care of on the 2010 and later models. But then they moved the gearshift. My Prius IS NOT the touring it's the hatchback. If it has a letter or number, I'm not sure what it is.
