Well, I was excited to have learned all about the Prius Prime and placed the order for a Titanium Glow/Moonstone. I was told yesterday that I could expect delivery here in South Texas no earlier than August of this year I thought about it. By that time the 2018s would be coming out and I would have waited 5-6 months to receive what would essentially be the previous model year. I was told the demand in the West coast, esp CA and also the East coast was such that the remainder of the country in the middle was having to wait long months to receive a car with the color combo they wanted. I therefore decided to cancel my order and let another customer in CA hog another unit. I am frustrated. There cannot be too many people in Texas that desperately want this car compared to say CA or NY so I do not understand why Toyota cannot allocate those few units to the neglected states in the middle of the country. I have had no problem buying any of my three Landcruisers, the Toyota Supra, the GTRs, the S2000s, the two Acura NSXs, the three Lexus LS etc. etc. over the past 20+ years but this car is just impossible to get my hands on. I know it is not the same thing but I am looking at a Honda Accord Hybrid that I can acquire fully loaded for around the same price as a Prius Prime Advance, about mid 30's. It is a shame that two other people had to cancel the Prime as well because they could not wait for months for it. One of the two went ahead and bought a "regular" Prius hatchback that was on the lot but I refuse to do that. Why should I settle for a car that is only available because it is not being hogged by people in the East or West coast? They don't want it, it is not good enough for them, so I can have it? No Toyota , you can keep the Prius. It was good being with you wonderful people. You all seem thoughtful, intelligent and caring about the environment. Keep putting miles on your wonderful cars and smiles on your faces Best Wishes to all, from Texas.
Sorry to hear. Maybe you can make a trip out to California and get one that way instead. I've driven 4K on mine already. And love it.
That's a pity. (Although with an August timeframe, you'd hope that at least they'll bump you up to a 2018 or whenever the 2018s are ready to order). I don't know how much of a hassle it is but some people have opted to buy from the coasts and drive back. Is anywhere in SoCal close enough for you to make a spring or early summer road trip?
I feel your sorrow. I live in lake havasu city az, my only dealer says they got the only one this model year they will get. I was offered second chance at it if the first customer passed. Was supposed to be blue with black interior. Was white with moonstone, an advance. Just what i want. The first customer bought it. So today while servicing my '13 prius i talked to my sales manager. I am promised the next arrival if they can pry one from another dealer. Also a toyota rep was due in to discuss more allocations (which dealers are asking for more), they are going to bat for me! They asked for a $500 deposit so i gladly handed them my toyota visa card! They laughed at that. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
When are 2018's expected to become available, or orderable? Anyone know? I was told 4 months on any order here in the midwest, for 2017's.
Man, if I were you, I wouldn't let those marketing bozos at Toyota keep you from getting what their great engineers have created. I think a trip to California would be fun, and you could get your car right away and drive it back to Texas. I've been thinking of driving my Prime Advanced to visit my sisters in Houston and Austin areas! I've driven it before, and would start at 2:30 in the morning to the sunrise; the desert was beautiful at that time of day. I used El Paso as my halfway point and made it in 2 days Just for laughs, you should call Lizette Vega at Longo Toyota and tell her your predicament. Who knows, you might have a fun adventure and a new car! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Using Autotrader I found about a 4 to 1 ratio of east coast to west coast Primes so more choices. There are scattered reports of Prime discounts which I suspect are in the east coast market. BUT test drive one first. Apparently someone in Colorado found it didn't meet their requirements. Bob Wilson
I'm hoping the solar roof is available on the MY2018 advanced. Thats what I'm waiting for. Our 2012 lift back is fine for now so no big hurry on my part. I am willing to wait for production to catch up with demand. If Toyota can't deliver there will be other options.
I suspect that Toyota is trying to meet a quota in certain low-emission states (CARB states?), and it is focusing on shipments to those states. Apparently there is a long lag time to ramp up factory production, and a lot of expense to do so, so they want to be REAL sure demand is there after they spend the ¥ ¥ to ramp up.
I've been keeping my eye on cars.com and checking inventory from time to time. Madison, WI, gets more inventory than Chicago and it's really only a couple hours' drive. Perhaps your options are farther away but it's worth checking online inventory to see what's out there.
You can listen to salespeople nonsense, or remember that Toyota is offering up to $2000 rebates on the cars on the East Coast.
Finding an exact color scheme in the exact package you want might be a struggle even here in SoCal, but they are on the lots and ready to go if you are openminded regarding color. Oh, and I, too, am sorry you can't get what you want in Texas because of the huge demand in California. It sucks..... We DID put the Prius on the map though.... I suspect we will always be their test market...
Pity any Prime wanna be in Miami Florida as the nearest new one is 737 miles in Knoxville TN. Bob Wilson
This is the story of a now former Toyota customer that needs to be seen by @Prius Team Toyota marketing should be doing everything in their power to reduce these situations before the public just ignores Toyota. Do not introduce a nationwide rollout you cannot deliver. A staged rollout would have been more appropriate IMHO.
I've seen one on the road here in the K-town area. I did see the one you mentioned online the other night but haven't verified its there.
Well, I live in South Carolina coastal and Prime is only available via order and my dealer said 120 days minimum. I ordered an Advanced and I'll just wait for it, it's too much what I want to pass it by.
