Tesla earns highest ranked American car brand by Consumer Reports Almost comical ... it wasn't too many months CR said how great Tesla was ... only to just a few months after that ... revoke their blessing and say their cars are 'no bueno'. Now? CR is trying to make sense of it all, so they don't seem to be so out of touch. But owners love for their rides flies in the face of all the bad pr that CR would try to shovel. It must drive CR nuts ... blasting Tesla quality issues, yet the nutty owners love their rides anyway. From the chart, Porsche is sort of in the same boat ... quality doesn't match up with CR's claim of "unreliable" IMO, Tesla has the great advantage right now of being the only game in town - & that's the only explanation one might possibly come up with to reconcile CR's consternation - thinking owners ought to despise the cars just like CR does. But to CR's chagrin, it just doesn't happen. .
They are straddling the fence of trying to support Plug_ins, and yet be critical, which is not working on cars. So I'd say on toasters they might be more impartial. My feeling is partially because CR were proven so wrong on their historic panning of Prius for being uneconomical, and partially because CR wants to be progressive and politically correct, CR have been quite supportive of EV, when they should have been a little more "critical". So then when their lack of being cautious and critical comes back to haunt them, they try to get back to their original mission.
People love their Tesla, but it ain't a Toyota in quality. And people are finding out in quality and long service wait. I got a Ravesla. And I worry about Tesla quality even though I love that suv. I wonder when the motor grinds, gateway goes bad, or when it stops charging. Got the 8 years warranty just in case... and already assume it be junked if it breaks after the warranty.
Your RavEsla has the best of both worlds - Toyota fit n Finish w/ a full sized (de-tuned) tesla motor. If we'd purchased the GEN II Rav, i'd be looking into one of these bad boys; JdeMo charging for Rav4EV You could CHAdeMO quick charge your ride ... but it's a heafty price, for that privilege .... And then - when your traction pack gets too weak to be practical, it would be a great home backup system. .
The market is dumping 3 year old Rav4ev for less than $15k now. Everything is expensive to replace outside of warranty. We owners all got extended warranty for about $2k just because many parts are more expensive than the warranty cost itself. For example, $4k for the heater. I would not invest in the L3 charging mod, probably could get a Bolt with L3 cheap in a few years once the 3 comes out. You know the Tony Williams requires the car to be on when charging, right?
That keeps the driver there which tends to decrease camping & causing others not to be able to use the CHAdeMO's .... So I like that idea.
I'd think the parts for the Rav EV are pricey because Toyota only wanted a few thousand made. This probably holds for most of the compliance plug ins.
Just reading May issue and CR says they are advocating strongly for EVs which is what I was suspecting.
I thought the parts for the RAV-EV were expensive because Tesla parts are expensive. I believe the RAV-EV has a Tesla drive-train.
Yes - as well as traction pack + thermal management system. However the same principle applies where if you have a 1,500 made versus 100K - you get a better price break. .
