I redid the calculations for how many cents per mile I'm getting on EV vs. gas, based upon: * Charging at home at Austin, TX tier-2 rates (500-1000KWh/month), * Including all fees at summer rates, except for the $10/month charge just to be an Austin-Energy customer, * 30 miles per charge, * $2.40 per gallon for gas, * 55MPG EV worked out considerably cheaper: 2.7c/mile vs. 4.4c/mile - about 38% cheaper, not ~20% cheaper as I'd previously calculated. That's without using Austin's $50/year all-you-can-charge buffet at ChargePoint stations around town. It's probably even less in the colder months, since we probably drop down to tier run without running the (home) air conditioner as much. Prius Prime in Austin: Good combination! iPhone ? Pro
I'm getting on average 1.6c/mi via 7c/kW charge point at work. Gas here is above $3/gal so it's a considerable savings. I won't be able to beat any records but it sure is fun to see 500mi on odometer with 5/8ths tank left. Thanks for doing the math.
Just FWIW... I should point out that I haven't really been paying attention to the price of gas around town, but that's roughly where it was last time I checked, which was ... a month or two ago. Best bet would still be home solar, in thinking... iPhone ? Pro
