Brake Issue (ABS, VSC, !, BRAKE lights) - Sometimes beeps on start.

    I have been having this issue for going on two months and it's getting very scary to drive with the summer rain. Have dumped $350 in diagnostics and $200 in parts to no avail.

    Took the car to Toyota 2 months ago to rule out the ABS actuator (code C1036/1054ish) that's under extended warranty until the end of the year. They said no, but others have said yes. I can hardly hear the ABS spinning anymore and it actually use to spin too much, was still spinning when I took it to Toyota and now I can never hear it.

    I believe the code I actually had was about C1096, it is supposedly related to the solenoid censor, the wiring harness, and the skid control computer, covers those 3 parts. I have replaced everything but the harness, which I am trying Wednesday. The Prius specialist I see says that the skid control and the solenoid are temperamental parts and may not work in the same model. IDK how true that is but I will take his word for it. I now have those 2 used parts as replacements.

    I am hoping maybe someone else knows what's going on, that way when I go in Wednesday and pay again to have this fixed, it will be done properly. I will explain exactly the issues and keep my fingers crossed someone helps!!!

    Car behavior:

    1. First thing in the morning, usually no error codes come on and the car drives normal for about 2-5 minutes.

    2. After lights (ABS, VSC, ! , BRAKE) come on, the brakes are really loose.

    3. If I try to stop suddenly, I skid, often being pulled to the left.

    4. Once every couple days, upon starting the car, a very long beep will sound, but no error lights for about a minute.

    5. The error lights always come on within a few minutes but will sometimes disappear after the car is restarted, but will always come back.

    6. The flow of energy to and from the engine and battery no longer stops upon braking - the energy flows out of the battery without interruption from the brake. I am losing fuel mileage and having to put the car in park every time I stop. This only occurs when the error lights are on. I can imagine this is wearing on the batteries as well. I lost 5mpg in a month.

    Your symptoms seem to possibly implicate a few different things, but you're driving a Gen 2, where those different things were all built into the actuator assembly anyway (unlike Gen 1 and Gen 3, where there are more separately-replaceable assemblies). So it doesn't seem like there's much mystery about what would have to be replaced.

    Did the dealer say they ruled out the actuator assembly being the problem, or only that they ruled out a specific problem with the actuator that was covered by a warranty?

    By the way, when you look up a code in the repair manual, the important stuff is not the little list of 3 things the code might cover ... the important stuff is where it gives you the page number where the troubleshooting steps start for that code, that will tell you which of those things is the problem.

    Also, if you're signed in to techinfo, you don't only get to read the manual, you can also pull up the exact warranty you were thinking of, and read exactly what it covers and what the conditions are.

    Bottom line, it sounds like there's an actuator in your future, but maybe it's still an open question whether it's going to be a free one or not.

    The OP lists three DTC, none of which are valid Prius DTC... I suggest that the OP needs to be precise about the logged fault codes, to increase the likelihood of receiving useful comments.

    if the o/p paid a toyota dealership for diagnosis, she/he should have a right to the printout of actual tech stream codes.

    As others have correctly indicated, Step #1 is to get the actual DTCs stored by the system, Step #2 is to follow the diagnostics for each as published by Toyota. Jumping to the most likely conclusion, as the system is an integrated hydraulic module, replacement of same is the most likely outcome.

    My mothers 2005 had same after 60,000 miles and because she had not purchased an extended warrantee she was out $1600 for the break actuator under the inverter. mine at 420,000 has never had an issue.
