My in-laws are considering buying a 143k mile 2006 RX400h. I'm slightly concerned about battery condition and longevity at that age. Any way to check the battery health for cheap? Can dealers do this?
they can check the voltages under load for the present condition. or you can do it with mini vci, but it's no prediction of lifespan.
I remember the cost of a new rx400h battery being over $6000. So you might want to factor that into your purchase, as this car is 11 years old
You could take it for a ride and see how fast the bars cycle. If they are cyclin fast, might be a warning sign. But it is 11 years old at this point, so factoring in a drop in replacement or reconditioning it would be in order. If they do end up buying it, I would be tempted to get some equipment to perform reconditioning of the battery to extend its life. Good luck on the purchase tonyour inlaws.
