I added some columns to my fuel spreadsheet for my PiP. I made one column for my previous Gen 2, being generous at 49 mpg. And I made one for a typical 2013 small car like a Honda Fit which Wikipedia says is 28 mpg on the EPA window sticker. Here's a screen shot of the relevant part of the sheet. Top row is average of the two tanks. Yellow cells are the PiP factoring the cost of gas and electricity. (I charge the car for free at work.) It was kind of shocking to see what I used to spend driving the old Camry. Wait till gas prices go back up!!
Does the PiP have the Cost Savings screen on the 5" MID? I thought it did. You can plug in the mpg of a car you want to compare to, enter in the price of gas for your last tank and the car will display the cost savings for Trip A and Trip B. We're saving $20/month over our Gen 2 (we used 42 mpg since that was what it was getting near the end of its life. Of course, it was closer to 50mpg at the beginning but shorter trips and old battery = lower mpg)
My base model does not. But it does show gallons of fuel saved. As for cost comparisons, I put it into my spreadsheet. This is the relevant part since January. Since that first fill-up in January, I've saved $439 in propulsion cost vs. a 28 mpg car, including what I paid for the electricity. (A sizable part of the electricity was free.)
