That's for the LR (long range) model starting @ $44,000. The base SR (short range) is 220. Overall, I wasn't really wowed about anything. Smart to do it on a Friday so there can't be an immediate reaction to stock values.
You have to buy the big battery + premium upgrade to get it earlier. I'm not sure I want the premium so might defer to January-March to save some coin. Of course but the range is higher than expected. The big battery range was the only thing that impressed me (they're still hiding the interior), but I thought that was pretty huge.
I'll see your 400 mile bet . . . . and raise you 200. Italian Tesla drivers set distance record after driving Model S 670 miles on a single charge - The Verge .
Aerodynamics at work, based on the math Tesla has likely understated the 3's range a bit not to hurt S sales. It's unfortunate nobody wants to make truly aerodynamic cars, some of the X Prize cars had a 200 mile range on less than a 30kwhr battery. Ah well
ah well indeed ... It's not that nobody wants to build a truly aerodynamic car, it's simply a balancing of interests. the more & more aerodynamic that any transportation becomes, the lighter & lighter & smaller & smaller & less & less comfortable, & less & less safe it necessarily becomes .... literally a thin walled shell around a human body - in a very low - lying down position, with teeny - thin, rock hard tires for low drag. X Prize won't carry a family of 5, & their luggage, & have cruise control, super comfy seating, 21 airbags, climate control, and a 5-star crash worthy rating . We can admire these things for what they are, but you have to balance aerodynamics with affordability, marketability, and practicality. .
Still waiting for a dimpled (ala golf ball style) car surface for aerodynamic purposes. Although my Prius has a little bit of dimpling from hail on the roof.
I rather have the car pictured than most for sale today. That said there have been 5 passenger xprize cars, they are just in a different category
