I checked the ABS code at O'Reillys using their scanner and it was: C0210 right rear wheel speed sensor. I was hoping that it was brake actuator as it is under warranty...Are there certain symptoms or codes I would get on a generic scanner to indicate bad abs actuator? Brake fluid was full...
If you heard the brake actuator pump running more than normal, that would be an early sign of the actuator beginning to fail. However, it does appear that the right rear sensor needs to be cleaned or replaced, so I suggest you start with that.
It also has an exhaust leak so hard to tell about noises....It is pretty rusty...I got a good deal on it but definitely not going to keep this one...The blue one in my avatar with 2X the miles is in far superior condition. Am looking for another Prius but this spent time in Vermont and I've never seen a rustier gen 2. I think I see the part for $60 on eBay: ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Wire Harness Rear Right AIRTEX fits 04-09 Toyota Prius AAIA Part Type Description: ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Wire Harness
When VSC is on and brakes not functioning properly will that affect mpg? Dash showing a lot lower than what it should...Barely drove it 1/2 mile so far because it came in last night and 1 of the HID lights is out (speaking of which, O'Reillys wanted almost $100 for one bulb..I just got a set for $13 on amazon)
That would possibly trigger a VSC light and brake???? I guess I'm going to order the cheaper online part ($60) and if mechanic thinks it is something else I'll return it.... And I'll listen near the inverter for a loud and hissing brake actuator?
You don't have any reason yet to think your problem is that wire harness, as opposed to the sensor itself, or something else going on. The repair manual describes tests that can pin the problem down; those would be the next step. Yes, absolutely. VSC and braking are what the sensors are there for. -Chap
Whoops...I'm embarassingly bad when it comes to mechanical repairs/diag....Free return but I'll have to pay return shipping. I thought it said sensor + harness. Thought I was killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
