New to the forum. Bought a used Prius v Five in early March with 175k miles. Just clipped 218785 and the gas motor started smoking. My longtime mechanic, who is Prius certified, checked it out and let me know the motor is going (head issues and internal oil leak) along with the flywheel. Love the car so I'm putting in a new (used) 1.8L gas engine & flywheel. My question is have any of you had a similar experience around the 200k mark? As you can guess, I average about 1300-1400 highway miles a week. The car rides great, the cell pack is in excellent condition and I adhere to the maintenance schedule to include oil changes with 0-20 high mileage synthetic. Outside of not driving as much (job demands so that ain't changing), any suggestions on getting a little more life out of the next engine?? Thanks
welcome! more frequent oil changes, perhaps? and checking the level more often. slower highway speeds? grasping at straws, really. just curious, how does one become prius certified?
Not sure. to some extent yes. First time owner. Had a neighbor with a 2nd gen with 286k on his and no issues.
Did all the above. Although, driving below 70 in my state is a life hazard. I keep it around 70-73. His shop has certified Toyota mechanics who worked on the Prius.
Since you were using synthetic, how often were you changing the oil and what brand oil did you typically use? Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much does it cost to put a used engine in it? Thanks! Stephen
