I've been a Prius owner since 2006 my current 05 Prius has 265000 miles on it. I have recently acquired another 05 Prius that's in rough shape so with my wife's blessings I'm turning it into a rally car. I will attempt to have it set up and ready to go by the 2018 season. Any advise, tech tips, thoughts any thing let me know! I'm also an ASE certified master automobile tech, with l1.
It is but I've always enjoyed the car. It reminds me of an old saying it's much more fun to drive a slow car fast then a fast car.
I think it's a neat idea. Certainly you're not likely to beat anyone in a straight line, but you'll just have to be a better driver. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. What type of rally racing?
I've always had the idea it now with a second identical Prius, it's on like donkey kong. I'll be trying scca rallycross.
Keep us posted... sounds like a great project. FYI, there's a member who swapped in a cam from a Toyota Echo and appears to have had some performance gain. Might be worth a read fro your application: 1nz-fe Cam Swap | PriusChat
Toyota put a factory-backed Prius in a rally event a few years ago. It's been done, but not for rallycross. Not sure what the classes look like these days - for Rally America some classes restrict the modifications on your car. I found that you can left-foot-brake the Gen 2 OK once you get the hang of the brake force progression (it's not like you can remove the brake booster like in a typical race car).
