So I ordered a new oil filter for my 2011 Prius like I have done for the past 6 years, and when I picked it up I was shocked to learn that the price had nearly doubled. Last year I paid $19 per filter, but now it's over $32. What gives? I would like to know from this learned community if there is a filter that is as good as the TRD, but not as expensive. Where might one find the best price for this filter?
Even paying $19 dollars seems steep for an oil filter for a Prius. The filter is tiny! You can get a long life oil filter at Walmart for $12. I personally buy high quality name brand oil and a $6 filter and change my oil my self every 5-6k miles. Costs me $30 if I buy the oil and filter at Walmart. Currently trying Quaker State ultimate durability synthetic. Gotta say, the Prius loves it. It runs smoother than mobile 1! Side not, sorry I know you didn't ask about oil, just wanted to throw that in there. Cheers!
Yeah even up here in Canada, the regular Toyota filter (part number: 04152-YZZA6) only sets me back $8.62, through a dealership parts department. Lower your expectations a little, do you really need the Toyota Racing Development filter? The object with permanent filter housings was to reduce the disposable elements in the filter, and the TRD version seems to be bringing them back, all this metal and rubber. The TRD filter: Regular Toyota filter:
Mobil M1C-154A! Get it with Mobil 1 Annual Protection at AutoZone for $44.99. Or just buy the oil separately at Walmart including $10 gift card and buy the filter by itself...
