I don't see anything about this in the OM. And a half hour of googling came up dry. This is something I hadn't seen in FL, but has happened several times during our visit to Ohio. I'm not sure exactly what the temperature threshold is, but when it's somewhere around 32 degrees or colder, the touch screen stops responding to touch until we get the cabin warmed up. It updates just fine. I think our lowest temperature so far was 28. Anyone else experiencing this? I know LCD screens don't do so great in cold weather since the "L" means "liquid," but you'd think a car's display would be a little more robust. This is my first experience with a display like this in a northern winter.
i have never experienced it, or ever recall anyone else, some of who are in much colder climates than me. could just be something in your unit, but i'm not sure what would cause it.
The touch sensing has nothing to do with the LCD display, it's a separate subsystem overlaid on top. Sounds like a thermally-dependent circuit break.
Thanks. Whatever it is, I guess I’ll have to live with it. Warranty is expired on that now, so it would be expensive. Since it never happened last “winter" in FL, I will watch and see. If it dies, I’ll look for a used one. Edit to add: We’re starting back to FL tomorrow. Going to take two days and see friends on the way this time.
Yup. But this was bare fingers. Wife & I both tried. No response till things warmed up. Going to be in the 50's here when we leave tomorrow, so no more testing.
Your base will have a different system than mine (Harmon Kardon 6.1" Display Audio vs. my Denso-made 7" LCD). Mine worked fine as low as -40. Of course the screen took a bit longer to "warm up" but operationally, I don't recall any issues.
Jerrymildred, I just noticed that this year with my PiP in cold weather here in Norcal. It has happened three times and all when the car is cold. I can't do anything on the touchscreen. If you have a solution let me know?
I was only in that kind of cold for a couple weeks and even then the cold was off and on. Only thing that got it working was getting the cabin warmed up.
I agree. All my previous MFDs had no problems up there in winter. And I haven't heard any complaints from any of you who live in the great white north. I wonder if that's why the original owner let it go since it came from New Hampshire. It was a lease, though.
agreed, that's why i replied to yazyazoo, i wouldn't bother if i were you either. but up here, i would definitely keep looking for a solution.
