I always park away from other cars in car parks when going shopping, which has helped my Gen 4 stay dent free for over 18 months. However, today that strategy wasn't enough. Looks like someone has bumped the rear bumper and side panel as they seem to have "bounced" out of shape as they are coming away from their joins (see photos) I'll look for signs of panel damage in the morning, but this evening the panels seemed to be intact, just not in alignment. I didn't want to try pushing the panels myself in the dark (and before I consulted you guys, in case I might make things worse) Has anyone else had this happen? Can you just push everything back into place (I can see the clips) or is this a job for the dealer only (and I'm hoping it won't require fitting new panels to the car)? Thanks in advance.
As long as the clips aren't broken, you can snap them back in. My Gen 3's rear bumper is slightly out of alignment (messes up the IPA) but because the end clip is cracked, it doesn't hold when I push it back in so it's just resting on all the other clips
Thank You for the swift reply. I tried snapping the panel back in today and it worked. Looks like new again.
I'd be checking under/behind to see if the steel Bumper Impact Bar is damaged. I had someone rear-end my FOCUS and it looked like 2 little pock marks the shape of 11mm bolts, but looking underneath, the Impact Bar (the real BUMPER bar) was V shaped - here's the type of thing - the plastic had bounced back, but my Impact Bar had taken the impact and needed replacing:
