I found this perusing rock auto tonight. I’m curious if anyone has tried this instead of spending $$$$ on a new one from Toyota. Looks like a viable alternative to the dreaded brake actuator issue, assuming that’s what this is?
...interestingly I went to the Prior Automotive web site and was not able to search for any product/service associated with the Prius brake actuator. Hmmmm. Paul.
Paul I was able to find the brake booster listed on their site. I just chose brake parts, then Toyota Prius 2006, and it came up. This looks very promising I must say. I might try calling these guys up when I get a chance. I know we have plenty of Dallas people on this forum. Perhaps someone lives or works near this place and could check it out as well.
Traditionally, you buy a reubuilt part, and send back your old part, to be refunded a "core charge". In this scenario you send them your part, they rebuild and return the same part, or claim to, anyway. Not sure why they would switch to this method, maybe to possible incompatibility issues?
If someone makes contact with Prior, please inquire what the price is for their rebuilt. It might be under what RA is charging Also might inquire about the actual rebuild and if any inherent problems with the OEM design were fixed, potentially making their rebuilt more durable or able to function for a longer period of time when compared to a new booster A 100k stroke life cycle sounds great, but now I'm curious to know what the OEM part was rated at
On their website it lists a $200 core fee for the 2001-2009 Prius. Maybe when ordering directly they have a small inventory of parts that can be sent out, but if you place an order through RA then you have to send in your old booster for rebuilding.
Thanks for finding this. I was looking under "pump". We still need more details and like another poster I wonder if the direct cost might be less than the Rock Auto cost? So that we all don't send the same email is anyone planning to contact Prior?? Paul.
Finally received a reply. They cannot rebuild the Prius brake actuator. Rock Auto must have made an error. here is the response... short and to the point: Regarding your question we cannot rebuild these at the moment sorry for the inconvenience Best Regards, Jesus Flores Support Specialist Prior Automotive Products, LLC 4874 Olson Dr Dallas , TX 75227 972-388-1090 EX 223
Thanks for the update Paul. I called the company and after some research told me the same thing. I was hoping that the lady who called me back was just wrong but you confirmed it.
Might there be a change in the future? Wonder what the problem is/was, quality control, lack of rebuildable cores, lack of sales, technical labor, etc? Were they ever actually able to rebuild any of these units? Or maybe he could tell us what the failure is on these units and we could fix them ourselves or find another shop/professional that could take on the job. Have no real interest in buying new OEM, and putting in a used part would be the only other option at this time. If enough people made contact with Jesus to show interest, maybe they could start up production again.
