Searching for new tires for 2004 prius. Is there an inexpensive tire that still has decent MPG? I drive 110 a day currently 5 days a week so I don't want to blow fuel economy but if I'm spending more money, I need to be able to make it back in a reasonable amount of time.
Expensive to you is going to be totally different than expensive to someone else. What is the highest dollar total you are willing or able to go for the entire set of new tires? EDITED to add another question: What size are your current wheels/tires?
That is pretty much what I get with my 05 @277k mi. What I was asking was how many thousand miles have you gotten with the current set of tires. 50,60,70k etc. What brand and model are your current tires? iPhone X ?
No idea tires came with car. I've gotten at least 25k out of them. They are bridge stone ecopia ep422. Not sure if they are plus.
I currently have Yokohoma Avid Ascend. They came on a second set of wheels I bought so I could do Winter tire swaps. They are very quite and reasonably priced. $77.00 with free shipping on amazon. iPhone X ?
How is the Nokian entyre? 55 dollars at Walmart right now. Not the 2.0 version but still low rolling resistance.
Not familiar with that one. My winter tires are Nokian Hakkepelletta 2’s. I just bought them late in the season online and never got around to switching over to them, however I’ve heard very good reviews from multiple form sources that said, there mileage actually went up 2-3 mpg from the standard all-season LRR tires they replaced. iPhone X ?

I would have suggested the Yokohama Avid Ascends too but the $10 per tire rebate ended May 1. Now they are $69.00 each at America's Tire/Discount Tire.
Tire rack first place I start. 88 dollars a tire not cheap. Are the hankook kinergy lrr? Otherwise it looks like I might do the nokian entyre 55 or less and 23 a tire for walmart to install with road hazard. I don't think Wal-Mart is authorised nokian so I'm worried about warranty.

Does anyone know if the hankook kinergy ST are Low rolling resistance? I know my guy can get those. Champion fuel fighter are 96 installed. More than I really want to spend.
Thats whare I found them. They come up when I check eco tires but no where does it seem to state they are low rolling resistance so thats why I'm trying to confirm.
I don't have any experience with entyre, but Nokian for $55 sound to be very good price. If you have time to shop around, looking for sale may get you bargain price on name brand tires. I bought Michelin Xice3 snow tire at a local tire shop for $120. Not a tire, but a set of 4 tires several years ago with discount and rebate. I had Yokohama Avid on my old HCH, and it was very good tire both mileage and treadwear. I also liked Conti Truecontact's ride comfort and mileage which was on my previous Gen3, but did not keep the car long enough to know the treadwear. I would stay away from Ecopia 422, since they have so many different tread patterns and rating under the same name, you are gambling on what you end-up with.
Entyre I read reviews that they can separate, plus that tire is the older version so I guess I will skip it. I am looking at the Kumho Solus TA11. Has anyone heard of them? Supposedly not a true Low rolling resistance tire, but in fuel tests at tire rack, they were very close to the champion fuel figher. 260 versus 384 installed. I can probably get the hankook as well but they won't be 65 dollars a tire installed.
Aha, that's why so low priced. No experience with Kumho or Hankook. I think both are Korean tire makers, aren't they?
Okay last question. It looks like the Hankook kinergy PT is defiinatly low rolling resistance and high treadwear and I know my guy can get Hankook tires. The problem is they don't come in 185 65 15. What is the closest size that will work? And does going to a different size screw up mileage or anything else? 185/60R15 195/60R15 195/65R15
Tire rack tested both Hankook Kinergy PT and Kumho TA11 and the TA11 was closer to the champion fuel figher than the Kinergy PT was to the top performer in that test but both were different cars so how do you determine the MPG hit? If the Kumho are doing 1/2 mpg less than the champion fuel figher and they are like 65 installed, they are probably best? Teadlife in tests is not great though. Hankook supposed to get 90000 miles but they did about a mpg less than the top tire in the test.
195/60R15 Going to a wider tread might increase the resistance fractionally, but not so much as to be a worry. Most of the noticeable difference is due to the slight change in tire circumference. In that respect, it is not a real difference, but a byproduct of the change in circumference.
