For you folks who have Qi-wireless-charging-capable phones, especially iPhone 8 or iPhone X, question: How well does it work on your P.Prime? We recently upgraded my wife’s iPhone from iPhone 6+ to iPhone 8+. The 8+ supports Qi wireless charging, so we tried it out on our P.Prime. With the case she chose for it, it pretty much doesn’t charge at all. The iPhone does its usual beep to indicate that it’s begun charging, but after a 20ish-minute drive, its %charge pretty much didn’t increase. We also found the LED on the Qi charger pad blinking repeatedly in threes. When she took it out to the case it charged from about 20% to 27% in 20ish minutes: Not insignificant, but not spectacular. I looked in it P.Prime manual, and all it says is that the wireless charger is compatible with Qi, and just put it into the try to use it, if it will fit. Not much to go on there.
Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I’m somehow just missing it, but I don’t think I saw anything in there about the Qi Charger...
I agree with @Diemaster. It is very low power charger. With my Nexus, if it is on with bluetooth connection the charger does not even keep up with the drain. That space is far more useful for changes and keys and other small item holder. Here is the quote mentioned above...
I use it for my Samsung S8. I don't use the phone for anything but the data connection while driving and it seems to do a good job keeping the phone charged up. I also have a cable but try to just use the Qi charger to see how it works. I am happy with the results...when I am going places I like to just pick up the phone and not have to worry about cables. When I used my phone in PiP and run using Waze, the drain on the battery would probably be to great with just Qi charging...if I used it that way I would surely plug in the phone.
Good info, thanks. It sounds like it’s more of a “keep it charged” kind of thing than a “dang, I forgot to charge it up last night and now it’s running out; better charge it quick!” Kind of thing.
It seems to work for my iPhone X, but mostly it is a convenient place to keep the phone when I am driving. I also use a Samsung QI charger for it at home.
Just as a rough estimate, how fast does the P.Prime Qi charger charge your iPhone X? I realize there’s a lot of variables there, but...
For my Qi-capable Android phone, the Qi charger in the Prime works very well to heat up the phone. As for charging it, not so much. If I really need to charge the phone, I use a regular wired charger plugged into the 12V outlet.
No. The phone is a Motorola Droid Turbo 2, which has a very rugged display, so it really doesn't need a case to protect it.
Gotcha. Yeah, it sounds like it’s largely intended as a charge-level maintainer. Again, on my wife’s iPhone 8+, it went from 20% to 27% in 20ish minutes. That, removing the case and not using it, not even as an Internet connection. 20%->27% is not insignificant by any means, but hardly a practical routine-charging means. iPad ? Pro
I have never checked to see how the percentage of charge varies over time. I know that if I lay it there with its Apple case that the led shows that it is charging rather than discharging if I didn't have the QI thing. I consider that a positive. The next time I take a two hour or so drive I will check its state of charge before and after the trip and report back.
I have an iPhone X with a UAG case. It works about 30% of the time, the rest it simply errors out. If I take the case off it will charge nicely. so the moral of the story is to make sure the case works well with qi. other than that I'm ok with it. it'll keep the phone charged for however long your ride is (usually coming home from a day working is when you need it. I don't necessarily need it to charge the phone up fully but keep it from dying until I get home).
FYI: For iOS, if you need to charge quicker and don't need to use the phone at the time, put it in airplane mode to charge. That keeps it from using a battery to search for connections, email, texts, etc. I have an iPhone X. It seems to charge very slowly. I use a Lifeproof Slam case. It didn't hinder the charging. I did notice one time the Qi light blinking on and off. I would pick the phone up and replace it and it would charge for a while and blink again. Of course, not charging when blinking. I tried turning the charger on and off. Didn't seem to help. Rebooted the phone and that solved it.
Not worth the effort for sure. Just use a usb adaptor or the cigarette lighter adaptor. The pad itself looks nice at least, for what it’s worth. Lol
