Super Cruise will be available on every Cadillac by 2020. The sensors required for it are already present on models of other brands, so offering it on other cars should start happening past that. GM rolling out its amazing Super Cruise tech to more cars and brands | Ars Technica
sounds like a trumpism. i like the driver awareness, but 15 seconds may be too long in some of these tesla crashes.
Here is an article covering how the system actually works. Cadillac Super Cruises to the front with the most advanced semi-autonomous car on the market | Ars Technica The 15 second figure stands out in the first article, because it is a numeral among words, but that isn't what was said. "Look away from the road for more than a few seconds and the warnings start. Ignore the audio, visual, and haptic feedback for 15 seconds, and Super Cruise disengages." Look away from the road longer than it should take to change the radio station, adjust the climate controls, or yell at the kids in the back seat, and the system starts with the warnings. Ignore those warnings for 15 seconds, and the system puts on the hazards, brings the car to a stop, and OnStar even calls for help.
understood. i still think it is too long though, but i could be mistaken. seems like many accidents happen in a split second, while you glance away at something. i'm sure the warnings are helpful, but might be ignored.
Well, the advanced safety systems are also included. Then Super Cruise is geofenced to major highways that GM has lidar mapped. It only works on those routes. GM is continuing to map more. So the car is also navigating by those 3D maps and GPS in addition to the onboard sensors watching the road.
I'd heard it has a rear view mounted camera, similar to the model 3 ... and that some drivers were apparently not looking forward in a way that the caddy's system approved, so it disengages. I thought of a way to defeat that though ... go on line an purchase a pair of these bad boys .
Yes, I meant looking backwards from within the car ... in the sense that the camera doesn't look outward .... not that the camera was mounted in the rearview mirror like the model 3. In any event, sometimes the jokes just fly over like a lead balloon .
