I have a 2012 Prius V that blew a head gasket. I replace the head gasket but I did not mark the timing gears. Does anyone know what all of the marks mean on the exhaust gear and which of the two lines on the intake gear I should use?
Thanks. I watched that video but mine does not look like that. I have two slots on my intake cam gear. and no dot. I ended up using the one on the CCW side of the intake gear. It runs but it is giving me the P3190 error now. I see it could be the cam or crank position sensor. Maybe it is sensing that something is a little off. Amy help would be appreciated. Here is a video. It would not turn over in this position. When I put in to the slot on the left (Intake gear) it runs but I have the check engine light.
I can't remember if your engine is a 1.8L or not. But I guess it should be a 1.8l. If you can't get the marks to use, in such situations, this is what I normally would do: 1. Remove the chain again, after removing the chain tensioner. But ensure you turn the crankshaft pulley to its TDC. 2. Turn both the intake and exhaust camshafts, so that the loops (nose) on the #1camshafts are facing outward horizontally. At this position, turn the "bucket" like stuff covering the valves. I think its called the bucket bearings or so. They should feel free to rotate, and not ha e any resistance. If there are resistance as you try turning the bearings, then the camshafts are still not properly set. 4. When done, assembly the timing chain cover, etc, and cover the valve cover, then start the car for some few minutes to observe how it works. This saves you the rigours of going to remove everything, if for instance there was a mistake from you. PS: Always get a spill catch mat to place under where the timing chain cover is located under the car. That would prevent engine oil spills. Pictures below were for a corolla 1.8L I rebuilt the engine last year.

Fascinating stuff here. So the Prius v (wagon) has different engine components? If so that is a very interesting observation. I was under the impression that the v (wagon) engine is exactly the same as the Gen3 Liftback.
I bought an engine out of a Prius v. I'll compare it to what i have to see if the timing is not set correctly. If I have the timing set correctly I will start troubleshooting the P3190 code. It doesn't look fun.

Can anyone tell me if I should take the crankshaft pulley off to get to the timing chain cover? Does anyone have any tips on replacing the head gasket for my 2012 Prius V. Also I am in the U.S. and I believe the prius V is different in Europe. Thanks in advance.
