If Asian longhorned beetles are found west of Illinois, I am sure USDA would like to know about it. They (and fungi they haul around) kill lots of trees. Boy beetle found here is a native, not all that impressive, root feeder (in its youth). Like most scarab beetles, its role in food web is to transfer root material to any number of ants awaiting. Might rarely kill a plant. Herbivores are more like a bearable tax on ecosystems. Feathery antennae on whatever insect, usually denote males. Ladysniffers.
