My Prius C was recently totaled in a wreck. I've narrowed the search for a new car down to a 2011 Prius with 105,000 miles or a 2014 Prius C with 60,000 miles. Prices are about the same at $9,500. I hope to test drive both this weekend but would like some advice from the knowledgeable. That would be you folks. Assuming both are in decent shape, which would you choose? I hope it's OK if I cross post this in the Gen 3 forum.
You already own a C... did it work for your needs? Was it too small? Mileage is going to be comparable. 2011 Prius will be an annoyance with the fuel bladder if you care about that sort of thing. Really it boils down to a few things. Comfort - was the C big enough? If not, get the full size. Aesthetics - Do you like the look of the rolling egg? If not, get the C (my reason for the C vs older Prius). Cost - You've stated this is a wash, so refer to 1 and 2. Mechanically, you can't go wrong with either one.
The 2011 is a Gen3 and doesn’t have a fuel bladder. That was a Gen2 thing (2004-2009). Either option would be a good one IMO. If you buy the 2011, look at the maintenance forum as there are some items you’ll want to check off the list . Good luck with your decision .
3 years newer and 40,000 miles less......for about the same price ?? All other factors being equal......no contest in my book.
I would pick one or the other: posting in both, on basically the same topic, is just frustrating to responders. Most everybody just checks new posts list anyway, regardless of where they are. I'll report this, see what the mods think. Believe me, it becomes a cacophony, having two similar threads. (Might be too late, once the ball starts rolling in both threads.)
Thanks all for the responses. Good forum. I'm used to motorcycle forums and this one is a bit more complicated, hence the dual post. I'm 6'2" and found the C a bit cramped; however, this is primarily a car for the girlfriend who's considerably smaller. As for looks, I like the look of the Egg Prius more than the C or the newer restyle. Since I've never driven the full size car, I think I'll go drive one just to see how much better it is than the little C.
That's a good idea. Our car is a regular 3rd gen Prius, and once at dealership I tried sitting in a floor model Prius c. It definitely felt smaller/cheaper, was a bit of a let down. Going the other way, you may be hooked. Look for a model without sunroof, for better head room. A good test of head room is to sit in the front passenger seat, with non-adjustable height, and seat back angle the same number of clicks back, so it's apples/apples comparison.
My bad, for some reason I had it in my head that Gen 2 went through 2011, not 2009. Thanks for the call-out.
