Apparently bisco and our assembled multitudes did so as well. Perhaps that's because Hanukkah focuses upon the miracle of lamp oil. Quiet reflection, family ties, things like that. Consumer gifting is not a big part of that tradition in Hebrew families I know. One dreidel is generally seen as sufficient.
we must live in different parts of the world. although, some here have added Christmas, and moved the gifts thusly
Following your objection I went to Hammacher Schlemmer website. It's always a joy. Searches on Hanukkah and dreidel came up dry. They've always had a niche though, with unusual gifts for $2.7 million or less. Golf cart hovercraft caught my eye, as did Robby the Robot. Latter unfortunately does few things compared to his 1956 movie self.
our dump (recycling center) has a swap shop with the most incredible toys. amazing what people bring in. and with a newish grandson, i have taken my share. no wonder toys are us went belly up. to hannukah, when i was in school 50 years ago, the jewish kids got a present every day, increasing in size. at least, that's what they told me
Fuel efficiency! WHAT could be more PC than that?? ...with humble apologies to those about to light the last candle....
