Greetings! I have had CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM on my 2011 Prius (157,000 - original owner) for a few weeks, unable to start the car. I picked up an OBDII and Torque and discovered my 12V was at about 8V. I removed the battery and my voltmeter confirmed 8V. The rest of the battery packs report 15.5V. This morning I replaced the 12V and it now reads 12V+ in Torque. I have powered off and on over and over (with pedal/without) but cannot clear my Hybrid fault. Anything else I can check with Torque to pinpoint where my problem is? Thanks!
welcome! clean the battery cooling fan and intake grille a new, fully charged 12v should read 13 volts stone cold
Can you display any codes with Torque? With warnings on the dash, there for sure will be codes, and even generic readers should be able to see at least some of them. Post what you can. If you're stumped, a dealership visit and $75~100 should shed some light. Or we can continue to guess here.
Not necessarily. Anything above 12.6 is considered "good" and after the "surface" charge dissipates, 12.8 or 12.9 is a more common reading.
Yeah my brand new Optima Yellow Top, after an initial charging and a day or two driving, first thing in the morning would read around 12.8.
If you are describing the "Fault Codes" that take a minute or so to load it always comes up empty. I don't plan on fixing this car myself. Although I have experience with repairing industrial equipment (30+ years) I am the one guy on the crew who wasn't a car junkie. I know next-to-nothing about engines and where to be cautious. The 12V battery was pretty much the extent of my car knowledge. I'm not going to lie...I was hoping somebody had a magic-reset sequence and hoped the 12V was the issue. It makes sense that it's something else and the 12V was just a symptom. The car does not currently run (ICE never fires up) so I'll need to have it towed to be serviced but I was hoping to at least prove it's not the battery pack so I don't get taken for a ride. I don't know any local reputable repair shops from personal experience so will likely take it to the Toyota Dealership where I have had every scheduled service done. All of my modules come up 15.5 and I am hoping that's a good sign. I sure appreciate everyone's attempts to help.
He’s in strawberry country and about 100 miles away . @James Powers is close by and might have a suggestion . When the message is displayed, how does tour Prius drive? Good luck and keep us posted .
