The answer to new technologies and competition is "building a better mousetrap" not protecting your old and outmoded less efficient mousetrap from competition. If Tesla can do better, that's great. They will be manufacturing in China, also.

That's pretty negative. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (one of the earliest) I am optimistic we can live in a world without war if we reject megalomaniac world leaders.
And the the base $35K model 3. No one knows other than it will be smaller than the model X. I doubt it will have Falcon wing doors, but it will have the model 3 U.I. system with a similar interior style (so will the refreshed model S and X coming this year.)
