Wow! Great write up. Thanks for sharing with us. I want to try it, but I am afraid I will never get to it. I bought a dash cam almost two months ago, it is still in a box.
Actually I've also installed the dash cam with the rear view camera at the same time while working on this project. It was quite easy and took less than an hour. But I did not take any pictures (I should have done that). But let me see if I can "pretend" the installation process and share some pictures with you.

Nice! Now you have the best of both worlds. I'll never understand why trunks and cargo hatches aren't better-lit from the factory.
I picked up in inexpensive COB (chip on board) LED light that puts out 300 lumens in a pretty wide beam. It has a magnet in the base and a hook at the top. I have found that I can position this anywhere I need it in the trunk area. Runs on two AA batteries.
