I wonder why it took him more than 6 hours to charge the car? If you hook up to a random 120V outlet is it possible (or common) that you will have a lower current available?

Yes there is. I think on mine it's just labeled Min and Max but those are the numbers if you look it up. In fact, my Duosaida L2 EVSE feeds it roughly 15A.
