Looking to replace a 2010 Prius 12v. OEM @ Dealership is $374. Doubt it. Surrounding stores are about $220-$240 range, not OEM but close as it'll get. I've also heard people using optima yellow top, though I've heard some people say that's not the best idea. My key question is this: The dealer asked if I had smart entry. I do, and he said I needed the s54B24r battery because of that. Slightly/different specs, and I believe different size. I do not see any s54B24r replacements online (google yields exactly 2 results), only s46B24r, which is regular/non-smart-entry. Will this affect what kind of aftermarket 12v I can get? Full model for the battery is C0PBS8451P, though I bet most people here know that.
Here’s a chart. Dealer is pulling your leg I’m afraid. https://www.toyota.com/toyota-owners-theme/pdf/03_Batteries2015_final%5B1%5D.pdf

Interesting... This is an official Toyota dealership. Any reason you can think of why he fabricated a JIS number? Can't he lose his job for that kind of misinformation? What are your thoughts on battery replacement, by the way. OEM-type replacement or Optima yellow top?
if you're original battery lasted 9 years, i would call some more dealers for pricing. after the oem, there's no consensus on replacement alternatives
I got a Lithium Polymer battery for my parents. They take it 3.2 mi to work, back home for lunch, back to work, and home, most weeks 5 days a week, plus other short trips to stores or the local hospital. Although I had a slight fitment issue, it’s doing great! I’m in Love, With Our New 12V Battery! | PriusChat BTW- Forgot to mention it has smart entry...
The JIS size you noted is not on the list from the link I posted, so I’m not sure what’s going on. Dyslexia and a typo from 6 to 5 maybe? I suggest you open up the covers and look what size is actually in your car, then go from there. (This instruction is even noted on the bottom of the page I linked).
I think with second gen there was a battery difference, smart key vs not. Third gen, no difference. Pep Boys sells a compatible Bosch battery for around $150.
Looks like the posts are different. Could you please share how it was connected to the car? Does the OE hold down keep it in as it is, or needs modifying somehow? I had to modify the mounting in my parents’ ‘12 v (wagon). Thanks!!!
Decided to take a look at parts.toyota.com. I don’t know the difference between Prius, and Prius L, but I tried both and got the same S46B24R....
Here's a pic of of original (for a 2010 Prius), looks the same I think: (I went over the plus and minus symbols with silver sharpie pen.)
There should be a hole to connect the vent tube. Hopefully you can find it. All AGMs should have them I would think....
Some here resist even the most rudimentary safety features. Safe batteries seem high on the list of items to avoid.
Yes, posts differ, but OE clamps will work. Minor mods were adding spacers so the OE hold-downs can securely hold it, and redirecting any venting into the OE vent hose.
When I replace our OEM battery with a Optima Yellow Top a few years back, there was a slight difference in height, perhaps 1/16". Even this required me to play with washers to get the hold-down bracket to seat flat across the top of the battery. Poor bracket design by Toyota. A more typical bracket, looking like this: Can easily accomodate minor variations.
