Now that Gen 2 Prius hybrid batteries are reaching (have reached in my case) their end of life, many of us are searching for less expensive/long-term options for replacements. Some of us have been through this before and have weighed the options. In 2011, I ultimately chose 1-2 year old salvage modules to repack my Gen 1 battery. Fortunately, thank God, it worked for me - still driving it. Now my Gen 2 hybrid battery, after 14 years of service, has reached it's EOL. So, I'm reaching out once again to inquire whether the latest model hybrid battery modules are interchangeable in Gen 2 pack (case). Preferably not more than a couple years old. Does anybody have knowledge of this? Has anybody done it, successfully?
Thanks JC. I'm considering this replacement: 2017 low-mileage salvage hybrid battery for $1355 +tax. Do you recall any thread here where somebody has repacked a Gen 2 with Gen 4 NiMH modules (for my assurances before I purchase)? Another advantage with this purchase is that I can sell my old core - that is, if there is a market for it.

Thank you gentlemen. Very good to see what's been done by the trailblazers. I would rather have somebody other than me do the geeking-out, unfortunately I'm too far away to do business. Local Toyota dealer price is $1803 plus tax carry out. Buying salvage requires prepay before it's shipped in, then I have to somehow on the spot verify that it's what I was told? I must assume it's been sitting around for months and may need re-balanced? Not something I want to get into. Either way I suppose I should get Techstream or Torque Pro? So big decision to save a little effort, maybe a little risk with "new" battery OR save about $485. by going with 2017 salvage modules. Hmm.
That price for a new battery is not unreasonable. I've heard of a few places that are a little cheaper and lots of places that are lots higher. You'll still want to give then the core charge, take it home and swap the parts that don't come with the new battery and then take your old one to the dealer to retrieve the core charge.
