I'm going to need new pads and rotors id say in 30K or so. Anyone know if the rear caliper is the twist in type or a standard push in piston?
How many kilometers has your car done - I'm hoping that mine last the life of the car - when I asked at last service, they said negligible wear at 40,000kms.
Well I guess I'm being very conservative. I'm at 70K miles with 6mm left in the back. So I guess I would need then around another 40-50K
No mention of pad thickness - I'd be checking what the new ones are - but this shows rotor thickness: FRONT
At this rate (on Mendel's attachment): You've got nearly 150,000 miles before you need to worry about it.
FWIW, our (original) fronts are currently around 6mm remaining, at ~80K kms, and I would change them, at the latest, by 3 mm. So probably around 140~150K kms, at the most. Maybe a lot more stop and go? Regardless, every 3 years or 48K kms (30K miles): full inspection.
If TOYOTA specify 1mm minimum - I reckon that'll do me - TOYOTA are conservative. I suspect mine will go to the wrecking yard with the original brakes - as will the vast majority of PRII.
