My steering wheel feels a bit sticky, although I give it a periodic wipe with a damp cloth. Seems like that is not enough to remove the stickiness. Anyone have any experience with cleaning the steering wheel of 2016? Any cleaning materials to be avoided, or materials that have worked well without causing any damage?
Is yours leather or synthetic? I suspect mine is synthetic - the USA manual says: Do you cover your wheel when it's in the sun (parked)?
Alan, I assume that my steering wheel is synthetic. I don't cover it when parked, although the car spends most days in shade. I wonder what qualifies as "neutral detergent?"
Is the stickiness from human hand residue/ grime or is the stickiness from the wheel's material? If hands, natural detergent....hand soap and warm water. Many other forums suggest Woolite (brand name) has a really good cleaner. If the wheel's material is failing, more than likely caused by some other detail product/ interior care product. Other than wrapping or replacing, I don't have a suggestion for this. "Sticky buttons" in Ferrari's can offer you a good search as to what can happen over time or use of some detail chemicals. You've got some options; let us know and good luck.
Perhaps a little goo gone spray gel. Home depot has it. Not the pro level stuff but the liquid gel in the spray bottle.
I think that it is simply hand residue/grime. Definitely not from any other care product. I will give a try with hand soap and warm water.
Not the kind of goo gone that I listed. That stuff is designed to take off sticky substances like packaging tape residue. The heavy duty stuff is the liquid that comes in the lighter fluid canister.
I'd be wary of anything with a solvent type action. Neutral detergent - I guess something like highly diluted hand- dishwashing detergent
