I received 2 sets of keyless entrys with new Prius. I thought I would share this info with the group. The keyless entry battery in the set my wife uses started getting a reading "key not detected" so I changed the battery and that stopped that. This was in Jan of this year, car being 3 year old, battery died. The set that I use started not wanting to unlock the doors and also the same readout in the dash panel so I did the same for my set and thought that corrected the problem but not. A month later it started doing the same thing again with my set. I changed the battery again. This worked good for a few weeks but started repeating the same thing again, wouldn't unlock the doors, sort of off and on, sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't. I decided to take a look inside and work on the keyless entry myself. The thing that fixed it was, there are springs inside that the battery lay against to make contact I guess. I took a small pen and pulled up each bow spring I will call them and that corrected the problem. Its been a couple months now and no more problems. Just thought I would pass this on. I've found the forum to be helpful over the last 3 years so this may or may not help someone in the future.
Keyless entry? Yes Smart Key System? No (that’s the one with the button under the steering wheel column). Those with keyless entry require the key fob to be slotted into the dash before starting the car. Those equipped with SKS will allow keyless start.
i think all gen3 have sks (2014 included) but there hasn't been a button under the dash since 2009 (gen2)
