I have a 2013 Prius with 78K miles. I am the original owner and this is my first hybrid car. Since day 1, I have only done regular engine oil change to the car and changed a set of tires. Other than that, I haven't done anything to the car and the car is still running fine. I usually don't like to follow the Toyota suggested maintenance schedule because I think it is too conservative and they sometimes suggest to change / replace things that are too early to be done to the car. Therefore, I would like to seek some real expert advice with actual experience here. What are some of the things that I should change or replace at 78K-80K? Tranny oil? Spark plugs? Thanks a lot in advance for the wonderful advice and suggestions.
Yes, "tranny oil" if it has not been changed already. That's fairly easy to do yourself. Air filters may or may not need changing, depending on how dusty your environment has been. Plugs can wait.
Hi CR94, Thanks a lot for your advice. For the spark plugs, what is your recommended mileage (not the manufacturer's suggestion) that you think we should replace them? Thanks
welcome! actually, toyota's (not dealer) maintenance schedule is quite good (tranny not withstanding) if you haven't been checking your cabin and air filters at the recommended 15 and 30k, you are doing a disservice to yourself and your car all the best!
I'm not aware of any reason not to follow their suggestion on that item. Strangely, plugs last longer in California, according to Toyota.
If you drive without ICE most of the time then you can defer a bit but if majority is on highway, follow the recommend 120,000 mi. I swapped mine at 119,000 mi, some said I could have gone a bit longer if needed but procrastination would eventually settle in if I decided to reuse them.
