Need to replace a single Ecopia because the sidewall got a nail. My question is......... If all 4 tires currently have 6/32" remaining and a new tire has 10/32" can i get a single tire to put on the back so its not part of the drive-train? Id really hate to have to get all 4 when the others have more life in them, especially when i use Winter tires in the winter. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Ecopia+EP422+Plus+%28S-+or+T-Speed+Rated%29&partnum=965SR5EP422PL&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Toyota&autoYear=2016&autoModel=Prius&autoModClar=Two
I use snow tires from around November to March so with 75K after 3 years id say they have around 44K with 6/32" left
Go for it - shouldn't be a problem. The Owner's Manual doesn't recommend not to. Some service centres might try to convince you to buy them in pairs though. I've done it in the past - see lots of cars like that.
It should be ok on the rear. I had a new tyre on the rear of my old Prius+ that was fine, but when I decided to rotate the tyres, or more specifically, swap backs over with fronts, it threw the steering slightly off centre and made it pull to one side slightly. I swapped them back just to make sure I hadn't done something to cause this during the process and all was fine again. The steering must be very sensitive on the Prius+.
Putting a new tire on the rear is a good idea--always put your best tires on the rear, even on FWD cars
