Hello, got the codes P0A80 and p3000 after driving up a curb yesterday to park at daughters school. When I drove up the curb, I managed to bang the bottom. Stupid I know. Anyway, after darling daughters show I started the car and had all the idiot lights. I drove to work and back about 50 miles each way and then read the codes. with the techstream. I cleared them last night and went for a short drive and all seems fine. Do you think it was just from bumping it on the curb ?
I'd inspect the underbody and check the cables that run from the HV battery to the inverter. Check for damage that might have happened when you "bang[ed] the bottom".
i had p0a80 and p3000! I got it removed by scanner and it reappeared! Got the battery serviced and worked fine for 3 weeks and code is back again! I got it checked and now my mechanic says battery hai 14 weak cells! Pic is attached below! Car is a little rough in drive now as it convers to engine as soon as paddle is pressed! Pls suggest what needs to be done!
None of those look like they need to be desperately changed, even module 11. The range between highest and lowest module is 7.60 to 6.89 V (a diff of 0.71 V). You will be getting an error because the voltages are outside the 0.3 V threshold. But what that is really showing is a battery that is getting out of balance and it does not look like there are any dead cells yet. A reconditioning might be able to recover them and bring the battery into balance. What you should do is a battery rebalance using a charger/discharger system (like the HA Prolong System from Hybrid Automotive). HA ship internationally. The other option is to buy a Toyota new battery, because replacing 14 modules is just a fools errand, at this point.
Are you sure no cell is dead yet! How do i charge discharge? Whats causes the balance to go out? Im new to prius so i dont know anything!
I forgot to mention i had the fan blowing at the back for 2 3 minutes like twice in my car after the code! Also when i opened the bacl of car for battery serviceing, the duct going from fan to battery that was also disconnected! So is it possbile the imbalance is due to heating and will be normal when i get them balanced! Pls also tell me how to balance the battery cells!
You can never say never, but as your modules are within 1.2 V of each other it seem unlikely. Click on the link to Hybrid Automotive in my post above (Post #4). Read the FAQ on this website and it will answer all you will need to know about charging, discharging and balancing. It is just something that happens over time, when you have 168 cell connected in series I think it is highly unlikely, but having the cooling ducting not installed correctly is definitely not a good thing. So, get that fixed up and working. Also, while you are in that area, make sure the cooling fan (and all the duct work) is nice and clean.
The link you posted does not open! Pls repost the link! Actually in my country there are no hybrid mechanics. Everyone ka just experimenting!
try entering 'hybridautomotive.com' into your browser. it may not work from your country. if you can't buy their grid charger, or an alternative, you can balance the pack with a hobby charger. search the gen2 threads here and youtube for directions, there is a lot of battery rebuilding/balancing information out there.
