the '10-'14 have a 15 year extended warranty from date of first sale, whereas the '15 inverter doesn't get it. I saw one post of someone's '15 inverter dying. I couldn't find anything about whether or not the '15's inverter is different & haven't seen a thread about this before. Maybe someone on here knows.
Apparently they changed the '15 inverter per Toyota expands Prius recall, reveals up to 20,000 hybrid inverters failed - Los Angeles Times where "The company agreed in 2014 to replace the inverters under an extended warranty coverage if they did fail, but chose not to replace all of the inverters with a newer design that was released at some point in 2014." Wonder if these late '14/15 inverters will work on say '10-'13.
I just checked a couple of parts sites, and neither of them sell the inverter, or even list its part number. The only way to compare part numbers may be to physically look at a pre-2015 and 2015 inverter.
Just looked at my 2015 persona manufactured 8/14 Inverter asst w/converter and part number is G9200-47230 Probably irrelevant by my 2014 C manf. 7/14 part number is G9200-52010
parts.toyota.com lists the service part numbers for model years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 in Figure 84-31, HV Inverter; part name code G9200, INVERTER ASSEMBLY, WITH CONVERTER, by production year and month: G92A0-47030 (2009-04 to 2011-07) G92A0-47031 (2011-08 to 2011-12) G92A0-47040 (2011-12 to 2012-03) G9200-49025 (2012-03 to 2013-10) G9200-49065 (2013-10 to 2014-03) G9200-49075 (2014-04 to 2015-11) In other words, the service part number changed at least once every year. Remember that the parts catalog is just meant to tell you what part number to order as a replacement. It’s not the engineering bill of materials for the car, so it doesn’t list production part numbers, such as G9200-47230, kindly mentioned by @dig4dirt above, nor G9200-47140, G9200-47141, G9200-47180, and G9200-47181, mentioned in the J0V recall work instructions.
Exactly. I usually go to McGeorge Toyota Parts, plug in different model years, search for parts. That's how I figured out the pistons/rings switch over, for another example. The one hiccup: there might be a supersceded part number for the earlier model year? The intake manifold is like that I think.
Best to plug in the VIN if the Web site allows: I've encountered a situation (not with a Toyota) where an engineering change occurred during the model year and the parts were not interchangeable because the mating part had changed too.
It’s not a published supersession: G92A0-47030, G92A0-47031, and G92A0-47040 have all been replaced by G9200-49025, but that’s as far as it goes. The J0V instructions just say to “order by VIN,” which suggests to me that the dealer has to get Toyota involved if the inverter assembly must be replaced. Agreed, but that doesn’t always work—even parts.toyota.com doesn’t seem to implement the full “single part no. identification function” supported by the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalog database.
