Hey everyone, new Prius owner here. I’m looking forward to enjoying the significant fuel savings; I just sold my Dodge Ram 2500 yesterday and pick up my 2010 Prius II next week. I’m starting to read through the forum, but let me know if there are some “must reads”.
It has had the following repairs completed. Engine resealed. Timing cover was leaking. Exhaust gas recirculation system cleaned and the egr cooler replaced. Combustion engine electric water pump replaced as preventative maintenance Thermostat Spark plugs All new fluids ...
Sounds like the main issues have been addressed for your 2010. The egr cooler was probably clogged. Good that the plugs were replaced. How many miles are on the car? A 2010 usually will have a lot of miles on the car.
congrats and welcome! keep a close eye on the oil level until you're comfortable with how much it is burning all the best!
Monitor your oil level religiously. Not everyone has been effected and I believe complacency plays a role, but there are a enough of oil-burner threads to warrant caution....especially with a used car. These engines do not forgive low oil events.
Cool, then as others have stated, I would check your oil level often. This will help you as you move forward.
Two items to work on when you can, no rush. The ATF WS in the transaxle really should be changed every so often. There is no official period but 30,000 miles, 100,000 miles and every 100,000 miles would be a sane idea. You need 4 qts of ATF WS and two washers from you parts department, about $40. Or, if you have the dealer do it, somewhere near $100 Brake Fluid picks up water from the air and both rusts in the lines and lowers the boiling point, both bad. How soon it picks up water depends on the humidity. I bet MO is humid. There are tests to see if the brake fluid needs changed. www.amazon.com/s?k=brake+fluid+test&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 I would have the dealer do it, while it CAN be done without the Techstream software, it is non trivial and not a shade tree project.
You can buy the black pen one for 2.99 on eBay...if you can wait for 3 weeks. Brake fluid in mine shows 3% water, 4% is the when you have to change it.
