hello! I’m a new user here... I recently lost my main fob key. I have a extra and some remote start keys. So I can still unlock my car and drive if needed. However, I’d like to find this other key for safety reasons, and I’d hate to unnecessarily lose a key! I thought it might still be in the car, so I used my remote start to unlock it from a distance (maybe 100 ft), then tried turning the engine on, which it did! Which makes me think, does that mean the smart key is in the car somewhere? Usually I get a message saying the key is undetected. I’ve also read that the car won’t start without the smart key. Again, this is with the other key far away, inside the house. Any help would be appreciated!!
welcome! try starting the car without the other fob. if it starts, look carefully along the bottom inside rail of the drivers seat with a flashlight from the front and rear
Yep, this is common when people have a messy car... Deep clean your car and get into every nook and cranny to find it if the car is acting like the FOB is present.
If the key is in the car, it is likely that the battery is dead. A physical search is the only to find it, if it is there.
So I’m guessing that you opened the car with another fob, then left that fob 100 feet away when you walked up and started the car? If you had no other fob in your possession then your missing fob is in the car somewhere. You can verify this by turning the SKS off and trying to start the car. If it doesn’t start there’s your answer.
Hey, all, I finally found it! Thanks for helping despite the silliness of the situation. It was in the car just needed to confirm you needed the key inside to start. Thank you!
Glad you found it. I just discovered this thread. My first thought, when I saw the title, was, "I hate when I lose my key conundrum, or even the secondary conundrum." Reminds me of the "lady alligator wrestlers" they used to talk about down here in FL. How do you know if the alligator is a lady alligator? English can be a hilarious language sometimes. Welcome, @undercovermari. Look out for crazy people here. [edit to fix typo]
