Follow up video to my post from last week on this rebuild Prime. Explaination of costs start at 12 minute mark. Each headlight assembly costs over a grand !
I was going to say they're cheaper at McGeorge, $700~800, but guess that for regular 4th gen: $1078 apiece at MG, he got them for $1073. Ugh... Composite Headlamp - Toyota (81145-47800) | Toyota Parts In a few years, the car could be totalled, by dinged headlights. This is progress??
Interesting that the car was auctioned at $8700. With parts he figures $14.6K spent (doesn't look like labor factored in). Then he figures he can sell for $10K more.
I think he might break even, considering reasonable labour charge. There was a thread here, about today's "fragile" cars being bad for the environment. I've got to find that again. The gist was with the typical expensive crumple-zone bumpers, headlights around a grand apiece, and so on, the cars are more frequently totalled in minor collisions. Even if not totalled, the vulnerable body components run the repair costs up, and often replacement is the only option.
I don't think he will get $24K for it. You can't compare the price of a car with a clean title to one with a rebuilt title. I was surprised he didn't mention dealing with all the sensors on the front end and the windshield. Not sure if they can be removed and reused.
