2019 shuddering on initial pull away from a cold start. Does not seem to do it when Hot. Feels like the CVT to me. But I could be wrong.
Are you pulling away from a cold start fast or slow? A cold engine, even more so now that colder temps are here, will kick on to bring operating temps up. There will always be some amount of shudder from the engine as it kicks on regardless, you will feel it less at speed than from a stop.
Good Point, when the engine is cold it will do its very best to avoid using the gas engine during the warm up procedure. If the battery drops down to 1 bar it will then have to use the engine to power the car during the normal warm up process and LUGS the engine. I usually try to ensure I have some energy when putting away the car to avoid this, or if its very low you can hit defrost to start the engine sooner than later.
OK, taking it in Wed for its first service. Definitely engine start up and not the transmission. It is more vibration than any of my 5 previous Prius'. Feels too lean or a lubrication issue. Hope they put 0W20 in it.
Sorry it took so long to reply but it is the engine and it does not always do it! When cold I have felt it when warm sometimes. Might be super lean?????
Whats the battery gauge at when it does it? Does the MPG indicator go up and down? ETP, do you happen to live in the SW florida area?
OK, got my first forced service. The dealer was refusing to change my oil at 4K. So I was about to walk and they agreed to do it. You can never ever change you oil too often. Just impacts your wallet. Normally I wait to 6K but I needed a test run on dealer oil whatever that was. It says 0W16 but I think that is way too thin for Florida. The reason so soon is that I needed to see if the EARL made a difference. Wish I had checked the level before I dropped it off. Anyway was suspecting too thin of oil as a mitigating factor. So driving another test run today but it seems the vibration is gone or less. Maybe/sort of/ every odd Sunday on 29 Feb. Back at 1800 for Local news.
There was a balloon brigade. I was gonna post a wiki link, but drifting further and further off-topic, over enemy lines... Better go make some coffee.
Ok, update! No shudder after the earl change on a two hour trip uphill, in the snow, and dessert in 100 degree and sub zero weather both directions. However, now I hear a very slight trans whine now that it is so quiet. Wow, now I wonder about what kind of fish oil they had in my go kart. I call the Prius the go kart and the Highlander the beast.
