I was driving today listening to the radio when suddenly there was a loud female voice saying 'Communication Module Activation Complete' All I could find about it is this CH-R page: Toyota CH-R Service Manual - System Description - Safety Connect System It says that this prompt is related to state 'DCM Activation completed successfully', not very helpful. It sounds it's related to a call that gets automatically placed in case of an accident, but there was no accident whatsoever, nor did I get connected to anyone. No idea what this all means. Did anyone else get this?
As I understand, all trims of 2020 PRIME, including LE and XLE are now equipped with Toyota's Safety Connect System, meaning telematics needed to communicate with the the Toyota Safety Connect dispatcher is in all of the cars. The feature was present only on Advanced trim in earlier model years of PRIME. It use to be that you had to call the dispatcher by pressing the "SOS" button to activate the service and register the car, but I am not sure if that is still the case for 2020 model. Did you sign up for the Safety Connect service? If not, maybe, it automatically registers your car after the purchase? You have complimentary 3 years service included with the purchase.
Yes, the salesperson really pushed for me to sign up, and I did. And I received an email that I had registered with the system shortly after purchase. I also got an email from Toyota IMS. That's apparently one of the parts of signing up to safety connect, that big brother is monitoring your driving and may then later decide to offer insurance if habits are favorable. There is also the SOS button at the ceiling lights but I never pressed it. I purchased the car a month ago, so it would be somewhat surprising that some automatic activation of the system happened only now. And this voice came out of the blue in the middle of driving without anything special happening. But maybe it's just some delayed activation or maybe it's a bug. Will report here should should it happen again.
