My 2008 Prius died and I bought a 2009 to replace it. The 2009 is a base model without the options of the 2008. Can I swap the smart key and backup camera from the 2008 to the 2009? I’m sure anything is possible, I’m curious to how difficult it is and how to do it. I have the dashes disassembled in both cars now
i think i have read that the camera wiring is there, and the key should be reprogrammable with tech stream, or maybe even the chicken dance
Ran into a snag, I swapped the radio no problem, but I couldn’t swap the lcd screen, the the wiring harness plug was different. The units were very different looking on the back. I was hoping this would be step one of getting my backup camera back, not the case
In a word, No. With the exception of cruise control, most options are a nightmare to retrofit. I think you just might be getting the gist of why that is with what you have done so far. If you really want those options, you should have purchased the model with the options you want. If it were me, I'd on-sell the 2009 and buy a different one with the option I wanted, chalking it all up to experience.
He is not talking about replacing a key fob. He would like to remove the whole SKS system from his 2008 and retrofit it into his 2009. Your link does not cover any of that.
You may be well ahead of the game if you worked the swap in the other direction. What died on the 2008? Maybe the 2009 can supply the needed replacements to get the 2008 going. Moving the higher trim level items from the 2008 to a base 2009 will most likely be an exercise in frustration unless you just strip the cars (practically) down to the frames and rebuild them.
