I accidentally dropped the battery blower to the ground after cleaning it. everything is buttoned up now but Im concerned if I broke the damn thing. Is there a way to diagnose the operation of the blower with some sort of scan tool? Thank you!
Yes, do you have Techstream? If you have an OBD2 adapter you could also use one of a few different "apps" to do the same thing. The fan should always be running at a low speed, stick something up to the grill and check for suction (feather, tissue paper, ear, etc). Or take off the passenger side panel and check to see if the fan is turning once the vehicle is "ready".
Or you can simply hook it up to any 12v power source and it should turn on. If you did break it, no worries as they are really cheap online. I have 3 myself and I can sell you one if you need it
Thanks SFO. No, unfortunately, I dont have any diagnostic tools of sort..yet. I have it for the other cars though. Still learning the Toyota scene. will the blower turn on by simply pressing the power button? I'll try the tissue paper method. Thanks again..
Not true. Fan only starts when battery (hottest sensor) temperature gets up to 35c or 95F. So it only runs when hot. HV battery fan Voltage vs. Temperature | PriusChat
@valde3 . I can confirm the fan was working at cold start with my ear and by placing tissue paper on the vent. The fan has three speeds I believe.
If could be closer to six (6) speeds, and I'm unsure if speed zero (0) is one of them as I've never tried that setting.
Yes speed 0 is one of speeds. Basically that's where the fan speed stays on mine during the winter. In summer it pretty often goes to speed 1 and rarely to speeds 2 or 3.
I seem to remember an experiment putting 12v directly across a gen 2 fan a year or so ago. It didn't go well. That fan ended up in the trash.
