Been trying to get wifey to get onboard about updating our Will/Trust which is circa 1992 and woefully out of date -- especially since our current house is NOT part of the trust. I have put together a new draft trust, which she finally took a look at last night and claimed it was all wrong but would not say why. I think the real problem is called D-E-N-I-A-L For any of you in the same situation....while you might escape the reaper this time around, he does eventually catch you....
Every State's testamentary rules are different - much less across the world. So your question is really just directed to the folks in Washington. .
our trust is up to date, but our attorney is re doing our will because of some inherited assets. they have a whole routine for signing at your car door, but i'd rather wait until it's over. or they get e sign
Yes, there are some differences, sometimes, but for the most part, the basics are all the same. My California trust is the basis of the update and from my research, it is basically (I said basically) good for the the 50 USA -- with some albeit adjustments depending.... Still does not knock down my initial post. No matter where you are, you most likely need them. Unless you want to leave relatives with a real (and possibly expensive) mess to clean-up after vultures pick your bones.
When my mom died, with a trust I wrote for her. It was a filing fee at the local courthouse ($20-50 USD??) and a couple of forms and -- we were done. Quick, no stress and no real cost. Well. O.K. Then I needed to sell her house. Which was also sort of quick and easy as this was 2006 and we got about $40k more than I was asking....and I sold it myself, saving the 6 percent jackal feesl.
Has been since I was 19. On of the benefits of multiple deployments. Eulogy is written (under FICTION) Plots bought. Clothes ready (choker white top with medals and neon swimming trunk bottoms.)
