I wondering if I've a problem that needs a fix. I have the child lock off, but when rear passengers want to exit, they need to unlock the door. The front passenger can open their door without unlocking (i.e. orange showing) by just pulling handle. The rear passengers feel like they're in a police vehicle. Pulling the handle does nothing. The dealer has resolved this issue by unlocking all doors when I hit Park. But in shady locations, this seems unsafe since someone can jump in. My VW Golf requires rear passengers to pull the handle twice to exit when locked. My question is... Is there a fix that works correctly (i.e. rear doors act like front passenger door)?
if you set it for drivers door unlock only, does the front passenger have to unlock the door to get out?
Isn't that how door locks have normally worked since the beginning of time? Automobile time, at least. A common modern update. I've never had any car (of 6 brands, non VW) work like that. As a kid, we always had to pull the lock button up before the handle could open the door. I am completely unaware of that being a common industry 'correct' operation. Is it a VW-specific feature?
No. This feature isn't on any Toyota vehicle. The alternative is to set the "automatic door locks" to unlock when the driver's door is opened. (Currently, you said it's set to unlock when Park is engaged, which is also when the car is turned off if you bypass P and press the POWER button directly).
Before you spend too much more time trying to figure this out............ Please be SURE that you understand the "child lock" function properly. Switch it to the other position and see what difference it makes.
That won't help a bit. Switching the child lock to the other position means that it won't open from the inside even after unlocking it, as OP was hoping for: There is simply no way to give the rear doors all the same functionality as the front passenger door. And mostly not just on Prii either, but other Toyotas and many other non-VW brands too.
Not paying attention to the details. Will wonders never cease. Still hasn't achieved his third iteration though.
And I literally said to be SURE that he understands which position is which. Sometimes things you think you know turn out to be wrong. Mistakes happen.
For those of us with Liftbacks, it is pretty clear from his 'symptom' description that he has the child lock switch set correctly. If he had it wrong, his 'symptoms' would have been different. For instance, they wouldn't be able to get out even after performing "they need to unlock the door."
You laugh but we've all climbed out the rear hatch of a Gen 2 at some point. (Ok at the very least, climb into the hatch area to manually release the hatch because the 12V died and we needed access to the 12V battery).
