I want to wrap these glossy black areas. Not sure if they just pop off or not. Can't find anything online.
I found some videos on "removing stereo" but it doesn't go into much specifically about removing that area for wrapping.
I wrapped the right side in place. Looks great!! The rest of it didn't reflect badly enough to induce me to deal with cutting around all the buttons, so I can't offer any tips on removal.
Post number 28 in this thread. Jerry's Evolving Thoughts on "new-to-me" Prime Premium | Page 2 | PriusChat It also includes the video linked by @Harters and a comment that I'd liked to have seen that before I did the job. I put on that vinyl over a year ago and it still looks like factory original. No return bubbles once I got them all ironed out after a week or two.
One question I had was if all the stuff attached to the dash piece from the inside also pops out? Like the vents, the screen, switch panel for the fan and what not, etc. I assume so, right? If so, maybe there's a shot at me doing this myself or at least saving a lot of money by getting the panel off myself and bringing it to a wrap guy.
In other words, I really want to isolate the glossy black part. Honestly maybe the silver trim part as well. And those chrome sliders which also catch the sunlight and reflect it pretty aggressively.
I have not tried following the video. I would expect at the least to have to unplug some connections. Yeah, my wife complains that the silver still blinds her sometimes. Nothing to the left of the big display has bothered us. I've failed repeatedly to fix the glare on the big screen. (I don't think you have one on your trim two.) Anti-glare screen covers make it too blurry and do almost nothing about the glare. Best so far is mesh screens on the rear side windows to reduce the light when it's from glare-inducing angles.
I'll make sure to tackle the silver trim part too then. I guess the screen is what it is. Maybe isn't as bothersome for me but I might notice it more after the wrap job. I'll try to see if it's a source of bad glare on am afternoon drive today.
There are some japanese repair manual dvds where they show you how to take apart the car. However I cannot buy them as they are only sold in japan. Here is a video of a guy just ripping panels off of his Japanese spec prius. Mind you it is a right hand drive and not a left hand US spec model. But I would assume that they are the same. Things just pop right off. ENJOY !
