Hi all, Well, I just reconditioned my HV battery, hooked everything up (I think) and tried to start it. ALL the caution lights came on and stayed on. This is the code that showed up on the reader. P0AE0, Any ideas on how to fix it? I've already done a search and it mentioned it could be a connection issue, but I double checked and made sure all the wiring was connected. I can't seem to figure out the issue. I would appreciate any help please. Thanks.
If this is how you had it installed, when you tried to test it, your problem may be that there are no main fasteners attaching the case to the car body. There needs to be at least 2 of the main bolts installed to ensure there is a good ground path/good continuity between the case and the car body. Remember, the car body is painted. If the battery case is merely sitting on top of the mounting points, it still has a layer of paint between the case and the car body. That makes for poor grounding of the case. The mounting bolts are what provide the electrical path from the case to the bare threaded areas of the holes. The main fastener that is located on the driver side front corner is a very dark color compared to all the other frame fasteners. That one is called the grounding bolt. All the green (ground) wires from the relays fasten to the case near the relays. There needs to be a path for the circuit to complete from the case to the car body.
Wow, that was it! I couldn’t believe it, thank you so much. Saved me $1000+ going to the dealer. I initially didn’t screw all the bolts because I didn’t want to take it all out in case it didn’t work. Who knew something so simple as a bolt could’ve been so complicated.
hey I have the same issue that I have no idea how to fix, I just replaced the hybrid battery and getting the same code but I put the bolts can I take a picture and show you to see if I did anything. Wrong
DTC P0AE0 (INF 228): The HV (hybrid vehicle) control ECU (electronic control unit) monitors the proper operation of the No. 3 system main relay (CON3). If the HV control ECU detects an open or short malfunction of the relay circuit, the HV control ECU illuminates the MIL (message information light/lamp) and sets a DTC (diagnostic trouble code). The No. 3 system main relay is the one at the front of the electronics bay. The areas to look at are: Wire harness or connector No. 3 system main relay HV control ECU You may have (inadvertently) fixed the problem if you unplugged and then replugged any connectors. For me, I would check any wires and connectors going to and from the No. 3 system main relay and make sure there are no breaks in any wire and the connectors are seated and locked in or tightened correctly if it is a mechanical connection like a nut or bolt. The specified Torque for the frame wire to the No. 2 and No. 3 system main relay is 5.6 N*m (or 50 in.*lbf . Note inch*lbf not foot*lbf). If you are happy that everything tests okay, and you do not have any reoccurrence of DTC P0AE0, then you can call it good.
I still have a red light of death the red light with exclamation point I thought it was related to my P0420 code but I am going to open the seat and check the battery again and see the battery. Is it possible I replaced the one dead cell battery wrong or it had to be the connections and the way I have installed it back in the car? I really appreciate the help.
