Toyota’s leaning heavily on advancing their ICS part of their TSS. Toyota Launches New Acceleration Suppression System | Corporate | Global Newsroom | Toyota Motor Corporation Official Global Website I doubt it’s coming to the states for a while. But it is being rolled out first to .... drum roll please ... the Prius and Prius PHV as a retrofit. iPad ? Pro
The name makes it sound like something for your teenage drivers, but it is an improved system to prevent accidents from misapplication of the accelerator. It works with the ICS(clearance sonar) to keep you from hitting stuff if you push the accelerator just a little too hard. It should also help when you have the car is in D, but you thought it was in R.
Mr Bisco I don't know if you are kidding or not but: When we were young kids growing up one of our playmates older bother actually but a car through the back of his family's garage - it was during the day while all of the kids we out playing baseball in a field within view of the garage a few yards down. I still remember the scene and Bruce in the car halfway through the garage wall with all of us kids looking on while his Dad demanded he explain how the hell he managed to put the car through the garage wall!
This requires a special key for the additional features. ICS already does this to some extent (as the link explains).
It's common for elderly people towards the end of their driving life to panic and hit the accelerator instead of the brakes because their wires get crossed. An elderly couple down the street a year ago had this happen. They live on a steep hill and one day they were headed to the doctor's and as they went down their steep driveway his wires got crossed and he hit the accelerator thinking it was the brake and the car went full speed down the hill across the street and hit the curb and went airborne and landed upside down killing them both instantly.... On the bright side, they never had to grieve each other's death after decades of marriage; they never had huge hospital bills and futile attempts at getting healthy again; and perhaps best of all they didn't have to live through the pandemic.
I wonder if this feature & name were inspired buy Tesla's "Chill" mode. If your car has over 600 hp, you need to tune down acceleration as much as possible when you're better ½ can blow through a set of continental's in only 18K miles. .
